Bavaria

We arrived in Bavaria yesterday.  Hertz at the Munich airport upgraded me to a BMW 535 xDrive wagon... I wanted a Mercedes and we were told the BMW was better....  The car has every feature, including a 10" screen with 3-D navigation.  Once I figured out how to change the "language" of the car from French to English UK (there is no option for English US) we we off... It's huge compared to the cars in Italy, and once on the Autobahn I found that performance and comfort were delivered exceptionally well in the BMW... 180km/hr (110 mph) seems like you are going 40 mph... I didn't know Mark's knuckles could get so white as he clung to the seat!  We also have 360 degree radar, LED lighting, and probably a few traffic violations which to my astonishment are issued electronically so I best keep my lead foot to the autobahn + ... sections of the autobahn now have restrictions and those limits are NOT suggestions, so the + (plus) sections are the only ones with no speed restrictions.  Heck, we still were passed by cars going much faster... even a little Fiat and a VW family van...

We were met by our proprietor, Armin, in Augsburg and are comfortably settled into our flat, affectionately named the Bird's Nest because of our perch on the top floor.  The street in front of the flat was closed for a festival, and we purchased local bred, cheese, and marmalade for our breakfast.  It was Sunday, so stores were closed... At the local Biergarten for platter sized Wienerschitzels later in the evening, we asked if we could buy a bottle of milk for our morning coffee... It was provided on the house... Only Americans would ask for such a thing, but I am resourceful!

Views from the flat...
Long time since I've seen green shag carpeting, but it's making a comeback...

Augsburg is a Renaissance city... originally a Roman city north of the Alps (the Romans didn't get farther North than this area) and Augsburg was a Free Imperial city for 500 years under the Holy a Roman Empire.

A selfie to show proof of life...
Today is a series of Medieval walled cities.... Cheers....
